Album Review

Built around singer and primary songwriter Stella Katsoudas, Soularium is Sister Soleil's debut effort. Katsoudas is a charismatic singer (part Kate Bush, part Siouxsie Sioux) and she adroitly manages to skirt around the dense sonic attack of her band. Their music is driven by throbbing, dance-rock, not unlike Republica. However, the quasi-gothic tone of the lyrics and edge to many of the songs puts the band closer to Curve. The result is an effective blend of dance, electronica, and dark-tinged alternative rock. "Red" possesses an explosive chorus and "AOL" is driven by Katsoudas' rap-vocal delivery. "Hit Me" is pulsating dance-rock and "Torch" is a beautiful, melancholic track, featuring a heartfelt performance by the singer. Certain lyrics sound almost like afterthoughts, but hardly mar Soularium, which should be met with delight by fans that might have wondered what a slightly darker Garbage might sound like.

i love this album

I saw Stella in Iowa when she was Sister Soleil, and when she sang "Blind" I had never seen so much passion and emotion in a singer before, so much energy, one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. I grew up listening to this album, whenever I was down I would listen to "Strength" as I have grown up, more and more of these songs I grew to understand, they are all stories and she made the stories into songs to help get through her experiences and healed through sharing them with others. For those that aren't familiar with Sister Soleil, you should definitely download a song or two, and buy the album, she also did a pop album which is her version of a real pop song in life was more making a comedy out of love, its a fun album! After the pop album she formed a band called wHoRse and again channeled her experience with the music industry and living in New York when 9/11 happened. She is working on a book now, and is working on another project. So when you see this name, be ready to see it in the audio book section too!

Stella currently fronts the band Dirty Little Rabbits with Slipknot's clown.
