iTunes Editors’ Notes

Considered to be her "comeback" (that's what they call it in Nashville when you resurface after taking half a decade off from recording full-length albums), Jo Dee Messina's Delicious Surprise sounds like she hasn't skipped a beat since 2000's Burn. The innuendo-free "Not Going Down" introduces Delicious Surprise with Messina's big and brazen voice belting out a triumphant twang-pop hit about standing strong when life deals you a hand of low cards. Similarly, the poignant "It Gets Better" continues along with the same theme, but she co-wrote this power ballad after her experience with rehab and you can really hear it in her soaring emotion and confessional lyrics, just as you can with the slightly melodramatic but harmonious "Love Is Not Enough." Things get a little redneck-rowdy à la Gretchen Wilson with the sassy, "My Give a Damn's Busted." The song lacks the very edge it's going for, though it's still pretty funny and catchy as hell.

Customer Reviews

Such power

This album is easily Jo Dee's best yet. If you can only get one song, make it You Were Just Here. The power and sincerity in her voice is stunning. It pulls me each time I hear it. All the other songs are great, too. Not Going Down, It's Too Late to Worry, and Delicious Surprise are three very fun, up-tempo songs that make this album a must.

Come a long way

I have always enjoyed Jo Dee's music and this latest album is on top of the list of her accomplishments. My Give a Damn's Busted, Delicious Surprise and Someone Else's Life are some of my favorites on this album. I only hope we don't have to wait for such a long time to hear more new stuff from her.

Awesome

This album is pretty good. Jo Dee's voice is really great. She not one of those fake singers. Her songs are really uplifting and they just make your day. Songs i recommend (Delicoius Surprise-My give a Dangs Busted)

Part of country music's late-'90s crop of female crossover stars, Jo Dee Messina's appeal nonetheless remained more with country fans than pop audiences. She sang in musical plays starting at age eight but discovered country music at age 12 and got hooked on the likes of the Judds, Reba McEntire, and Dolly Parton. She soon started performing live, and by 16 she was playing local clubs with a rhythm section...
