EDITORS’ NOTES

This Tulsa, Oklahoma four-piece formed under the name Crew before relocating to Nashville and changing their name. SafetySuit play post-grunge radio-rock with tinges of Britpop wit in the song crafting. Frontman Douglas Brown's mature and contained vocals are able to convey heavy and heartfelt emotion without resorting to vocal gymnastics or melodramatic screaming. “Someone Like You” opens their debut with sparkling guitars and Brown inflecting impassioned lyrics that sound both demure and pretty. “Stay” is a readymade hit ballad with a sublime string section and hushed marching drums playing under Dave Garofolo’s guitarscapes that wind and blend crunchy distortion and washy shoegazer effects with taste and finesse. “Anywhere But Here” is another ballad that finds Brown using less subtlety in the poetry of his lyrics, but if the Goo Goo Dolls have taught us anything, it’s that these kinds of straightforward serenades have the power to accompany big-budget Hollywood film soundtracks, so who knows?

Safetysuit is one of the best new bands I've heard in a long while. I'm a sucker for great vocals and this band delivers. Some of the songs on this album actually give me goosebumps they are that good! I 100% RECOMMEND BUYING THE WHOLE ALBUM (there really isn't a song on here that is not fantastic) but just in case you aren't ready to purchase the whole album, here is my breakdown of the songs. Someone Like You- 4/5 Great single, first song I heard by the band, if you have never heard Safetysuit before this will definitely show you what they are all about. Apology- 5/5 my 3rd most played song on my 'top 25 most played' playlist. it's such a great catchy song with great meaning. you'll catch yourself humming or singing this in the shower, trust me :) Find a Way- 3.5/5 slow, soft, and seductive. I like this song a lot but just not as much as the others so thats why the rating is a little lower than the others. If you are into slower rock songs, this is definitely for you! Stay-4/5 Just started REALLY listening to this song, and i love love love love it. gave me the chills first time around. its so beautiful. Something I Said- 4/5 VERRRRY catchy, I find myself singing this song all the time. At the end, the vocals get superb. Really captures the frustration in a relationship that you WANT to work, but for some reason or another, ISN'T working. Anywhere But Here- 6/5 MY FAVORITE SONG ON THIS ALBUM. Everyone has that one person they can't get over, the one person they want to be with every day and cherish every second you have with them and that is why this song is so powerful, everyone can connect to it! The vocals are beautiful, the accompanying instruments larger than life and amazing. DEFINITELY BUY THIS TRACK. Down 3/5- great song but kinda blends in with the others, doesn't really stand out. The Moment 3/5- haven't really had a chance to fully appearciate this track yet. It was on one of the episodes of the Hills I have heard so if you like that show, maybe buy this track. Annie 3.5/5- reallllly cute lyricss :) if this annie girl is real she is one lucky girl. a song that every girl should listen to, get a confidence booster. everyone is beautiful in their own skin. What If- 2/5 doesn't stand out in my mind Gone Away- 2/5 doesn't stand out Life Left to Go 4/5- great way to end the album!!! soft and slow and verrrry beautiful lyrics. i looked them up so i could fully appearciate this song :) its about not giving up and finding the strength within yourself to move past whatever obstacles you face in life. TRACKS TO BUY: Someone Like You, Apology, Stay, Something I Said, Anywhere But Here, & Life Left to Go I look forward to following this band for years to come and I hope they get the success and fame they honestly deserve :)

Great melodic modern rock

Clark Tucker,

ladies and gents, meet my fellas from my home state of Tennessee; Safetysuit. This record was long anticipated for me. I heard Annie back in the day and loved it, in fact i ripped it off their myspace page and played it for months on end. The rest of this record is noting disappointing to say the least. The album starts off with the opener and lead single that just soars and is doing well on radio. These guys are good guys and have crafted the perfect blend of modern rock as i call it. No emo whiny vocals, no 3 chord rock here. this is quality modern rock with outstanding vocals. I recommend everyone to buy this and listen to it nonstop. Every part of this record is fantastic, not one single flaw on this record. I am thinking this might be the best debut of the year. This is the fist we have seen by this Tennessee band and it wont be the last. Their are backed by Universal records and are being promoted accordingly. give em a chance. These guys have made the perfect modern rock record for summer. Clark Tucker

About SafetySuit

When most bands begin to build up enough of a buzz in their hometowns that a move to a more "music biz"-oriented city may be in the offing, the choice is usually New York or Los Angeles. For Tulsa-born SafetySuit, however, the destination was Nashville, Tennessee. Originally known as Crew, singer/guitarist Doug Brown, drummer Tate Cunningham, and bassist Jeremy Henshaw (with two other members in the ranks at the time) first came to prominence in their Oklahoma hometown after winning a talent show that the band entered at the last minute. Over the course of the next year, the group began to outgrow its surroundings, and opted for a move. While Nashville is a mecca for those heading toward country stardom, rock stars usually don't race there to set up camp. Realizing what a musical city it was in all manner of styles, the lads in SafetySuit gave it a go. By the summer of 2005, they had recorded an EP and begun a performance schedule that sometimes saw them hitting stages two to three times a week. Eventually, the band scored a deal with Universal, and with Dave Garofalo taking on the guitarist slot, SafetySuit recorded their debut full-length, Life Left to Go, which was released in 2008. After finding Billboard success with the album in 2009, SafetySuit's presence started to expand when they had songs featured on television shows like The Hills and Kyle XY.

The following year, the band headed into the studio to start work on a follow-up, but a scrapped recording session and label moves caused a number of delays. Singles from the perpetually postponed album finally began appearing in 2011, and in early 2012 the band was finally able to release its sophomore effort, These Times. The album debuted at number seven on the Billboard album chart, and SafetySuit launched a successful tour in support. In 2012, they dropped a four-song EP featuring a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," and in June 2013, SafetySuit announced on social media that they were beginning work on their third full-length album. A single, "On Your Side," was released six months later, but the album failed to appear. In November 2016, the third SafetySuit album, simply titled SafetySuit, was finally released, appearing on the band's own Arena Complex label. SafetySuit rose to number eight on the independent albums chart. ~ Chris True
