iTunes Review

A note of idealism has always resonated in the work of Bryce Avary (a.k.a. The Rocket Summer). Life Will Write the Words channels his zest for living into songs that uphold his past standards for ultra-catchy, spiritually inclined pop/rock. As in the past, Avary composed, played, and produced all of the tracks here, lending the album an intensely autobiographical quality. Rather than brood over personal issues, he prefers to work them out in propulsive numbers like “Run and Don’t Stop,” “Underrated," and “Revival.” Avary's a master of classic rock gestures, unleashing volleys of guitar-hero riffage in “Prove It” and building to an almost-operatic crescendo in “Ashes Made of Spades.” Though he freely indulges his theatrical side, he’s also capable of quieter moments, as the acoustic guitar–centered tune “Soldier” shows. Whether he’s recounting his convoluted journey to true romance (“200,000”) or lamenting the selfishness of the modern world (“Old Love”), Avary loudly and proudly wears his heart on his sleeve. “The Rescuing Type” nicely sums up the album’s mix of galloping beats, buoyant melodies, and life-affirming lyrics.

BRYCE AND JESUS

I just purchased the album and I just have to say, Bryce, Jesus is in your music man. Be unashamed and proclaim Him. He's made you for great things!
The Rocket Summer is such an encouragement.

Awesome!

Another amazing album by one of the most underrated musicians out there! Great job!

Awesome, Awesome.

Buy this album. There are no surprises in this TRS album. It's great as always, and if you've enjoyed Bryce's previous albums, you'll feel no differently about this one.
This album is instrumentally driven, especially piano wise. Admittedly, I've only had the album for the past couple hours, but the piano is what steals the show on this album. Lyrically, I don't think it is up to par with Do You Feel, but it is better than Of Men and Angels. This album also seems to be his most religiously directed. However, as a nonbeliever I didn't find it a turn off at all. Also voice's Bryce's still shows the maturity that first appeared in Of Men and Angels and I'm stoked that it has stuck around. The single of this album "Run and Don't Stop" certainly isn't the strongest of the album.
TRS albums always take a bit to warm up to in my opinion. Bryce looks to connect with his listeners not in that surface emotion way that radio pop songs appeal for a while then fade. No, it takes a while for you really to get to the gut of his songs. To be god awfully cheesy, you have to live a little, live a lot. It takes the right experience, right pain, right love in your life to just get the song. Then you always have this deep connection to the song that time or overplaying will overcome This album feels no different.

The pride of Colleyville, Texas, Bryce Avary recorded and released two initial EPs before taking the Rocket Summer to stages worldwide. Avary signed with the Militia Group in 2002 and released the Calendar Days LP a short time after; a gifted songwriter and musician, he played every instrument heard on the album, debuting a lush, layered, and exuberant sound that blended alt-rock and emo influences with references to his faith. The Tim O'Heir-produced Hello, Good Friend followed in 2005. By that...
