Good, but...

This band has been around (off & on) for over 2 decades. There is a truly great song here. "The Radio In Memphis". Features backing vocals by Anne Richmond Boston, a full member back in the 80's but now just a part-timer. She has a great voice & if itunes could get their hands on their great 80's album "Blue Tomorrow" you'd agree!! Country-punkers with an offbeat point of view!

Awesome! Pool Q;s Rule!

The first time I saw the Swimming Pool Q's was at UGA in the early 80's and I've been going to shows for the next 30 years. They are a truly amazing live band. I am prejudiced towards the earlier recordings which featured Anne Richmond Boston. Her voice is unique and she adds so much too a song. I hope they stay around Atlanta for many more years. Thanks Jeff & Anne.

Wow! What an amazing artistic piece of work!

For ha-ha's today I decided to peruse the recesses of my mind and check out iTunes to see if there was any product from bands of [seeming] yesteryear. I had a roomate who was into this band, but I only really liked one song from the album he owned...and all I remember is there was a female singer. I decided to listen to one track of this new creation, then another, and then before I knew it I became a big fan of this band that I merely tolerated back then. And this is a talent that needs to be heard. "Royal Academy of Reality" is one of those albums that covers a vast variety of artistic style, musicianship, and production on many different levels; it is a revelation of the band's major musical integrity. Where have these guys been?! Only a seasoned creative element and solid talent could undertake such an adventure going so many directions without leaving the listener wondering what direction they were heading. The pleasure that keeps you on aural edge is that within RAOR's complexity there resides the necessary cohesiveness to make it easy to hit the loop button and play it over again and again. It is my hope the musical world will focus its attention on this band and compensate them accordingly.

Formed: 1981

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Atlanta's Swimming Pool Q's were one of the first Southern new wave bands to gain nationwide recognition in the early '80s after the breakthrough of the B-52's made folks aware that there was more to Southern rock than what Q's leader Jeff Calder called "the Boogie Establishment." However, while most of their Georgia brethren were famous for serving up light, off-kilter pop, Swimming Pool Q's music had a darker and more challenging undercurrent, balancing twisted guitar patterns against lyrics that...
