10 Songs, 45 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

After an extended hiatus, bandleader Joshua Homme brings Queens of the Stone Age raging back to life on …Like Clockwork, a set of songs propelled by a bash of drums, gnarled guitar, and brooding intensity. The album opens with an ominous mid-tempo warning, “Keep Your Eyes Peeled,” before launching into edgy, complex tunes like “My God Is the Sun” and “Fairweather Friends.” Even the album’s piano ballad, “The Vampyre of Time and Memory,” retains a black-hearted edge—like taking a rumble down Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in a muscle car.

Great album!

Excellent QOTSA rock and a great example of Homme's talent and the bands unique sound.

Personal Favorite QOTSA

There's a lot of things I love about this album. To rattle off a few, it has great riffs, tones, overall production, and sets such a cool but cynical and dark tone. I honestly wish I didn't relate to some of these songs as much as I do. It took me a few listens to really start appreciating this album as much as I do, but once really analyzed what was going on and became very familiar with the songs, this managed to earn its place as one of my top 5 albums of all time. It's a very personal, dark, and well produced and approached record, so if that sounds good to you listen to this and pay attention to the lyrics and smaller details, and it also helps to learn the motives for the record from Josh Homme. HIGHLIGHTS: Honestly the lowest point for me personally is the opener track "Keep Your Eyes Peeled," everything else is awesome, and even that song has some merit. My favorite is definitely Fairweather Friends, and I Sat by the Ocean is pretty close behind.

This is the greatest thing to happen to humanity

sometimes i listen to "...like clockwork" by queens of the stone age and i feel myself in the dirtiest manner.
sometimes i wish i could blast it so loud god would call the cops on me.
so loud it would disrupt some sort of astrological event that made eveything ok -
like gravity
i would have to say, and mean it, that there is not a better rock album
(minus dark side of the moon)
