iTunes Review

With intimate storytelling, intricate orchestration, and catchy melodies, If You’re Feeling Sinister established the Scottish collective among the most eloquent indie bands of the ‘90s. Using a breezy mix of influences (mid-century French pop, Brit folk, and ‘80s indie pop, to name a few) songwriter Stuart Murdoch creates characters who cast the mould for Wes Anderson’s twee, bookish heroes—they’re pensive and precocious, maudlin and mischievous. But ultimately it’s the shimmering melodies of songs like “Dylan in the Movies” and “The Fox in the Snow” that make the album an unforgettable triumph.

Track 7 error

A great album, but the iTunes version has an error on track 7 whereby "If you're feeling sinister" has been replaced by a second track of "mayfly." Other than this oversight the album is quite good...

Mix Up

Though this is an amazing album, buy the CD or download it from amazon. What itunes says is "If You're Feeling Sinister" is really "Mayfly".

Witty, charming lyrics sung to well crafted music

A band that takes its name from a French children's television series about a boy and his dog would almost have to be precious, and to be sure, Belle & Sebastian are precious. But precious can be a damning word, and Belle & Sebastian don't have the negative qualities that the word connotes: they are private but not insular, pretty but not wimpy; they make gorgeous, delicate melodies sound full-bodied. Led by guitarist/vocalist Stuart Murdoch, the seven-piece band has an intimate, majestic sound that...
