Project WG - Perfectly designed for COMPLETE DOMINATION!

From the retro sound to electronic sounds, Wonder Girls has achieved to maintain their unique flavor, being able to appease their original WonderFul fans and having a great potential to attract more Western fans. Wonder Girls is able to show that even in their endeavor to succeed in the US, they can stay classy, sexy, and trendy. After being away for so long, then returning with their 2nd full album, Wonder World, Wonder Girls showed their growth during their hiatus in the US, and from their previous hit, "Like This", and now, "Like Money", Wonder Girls just keeps showing how much quality music triumphs over quantity after having been gone for so long. "Like Money" is electronic, but it still has that specific sound and rhythm that can easily still be identified as Kpop, making it a good blend of Kpop and Western-influenced music. While at first listen, it sounds a bit superficial to be asked to be loved like materialistic things, a closer look at the lyrics show empowered, strong, sexy women telling the men to step it up if they want to be with these women.

I hope this collaboration will be met with a great reception from the US. Akon adds a nice, US touch to the song, and as a whole, the song can reach a wider audience.

Catchy beat but could've gone further. Maybe we'll get a dubstep remix?

The Lyrics: Like most pop music including this group's previous English effort, 'The DJ is Mine', the lyrics here are a bit shallow and silly. Not surprising as 'Like Money' was also written by The DJ's Crystal Nicole aka Cri$tyle. The surprisingly simple "rap" section stands out like a sore thumb, barely rhyming and not particularly clever. Of course, if you were after clever lyrics, you'd be listening to Fiona Apple. What really matters here is the beat...

The Beat: Written by Cri$tyle and produced by Rhee Woo Seok aka RAINSTONE (the same man responsible for their hit 'Nobody'), the track is extremely catchy. However, the mix in the teaser videos sounded a little more hardcore than what was ultimately released. At times the track sounds like it's dipping into dub step territory, but then backs off. It's fun and a little dark but also calculatingly safe. "Dubstep Lite"

The Vocals: The vocals are heavily autotuned in part for the genre, and likely in part to cover some of the girl's thicker accents- a tactic also used on BoA's American debut. Sonically, it works to great effect. Despite the robotizing of their voices, their talent still shines through. I continue to be confused by JYP's decision to put Sohee so front and center in many of their productions. Vocally she is by far the weakest of the group, but thanks to autotune (and I'm guessing melodyne), it isn't a hindrance here like it was on their previous English singles, 'Nobody' and '2 Different Tears'. Her prominence is still surprising considering Lim and Yubin can speak and sing in English without an accent; an important asset if they want to achieve commercial success in North America or the UK. Still, this is the strongest the girls have sounded in a long time, and their hard work certainly deserves recognition.

Wonder Girls and Akon? :D

one of the best songs so far! I love this collaboration, arrangement, and vocals! I want to hear more from Wonder Girls!

Formed: 2007 in Korea

Genre: K-Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

A South Korean girl pop group under the watchful eye of Park Jin-Young and JYP Entertainment, the Wonder Girls were popular and prone to bouts of bad luck, to put it mildly. Their first appearance, on a Korean pop music television show in February of 2007, was followed by the mini-album The Wonder Begins (which was released a few days later). Before the Wonder Girls could get rolling on their debut album, however, a series of events occurred that threatened to derail them. First, Ahn So Hee was injured...
