iTunes Review

In many ways, violinist (and occasional wordless vocalist) Lindsey Stirling is a product of the 21st century. She was a contestant on a network talent show in 2010 and impressively grew her fanbase through viral music videos. But the Arizona native is also classically trained and knows the value of a strong melody. For various tracks here, she paired herself with different EDM producers (including Marko G, Poet Life, ASFHeeN, and FIXYN) and cowrote the songs with them. With another arrangement, the electronic dance number “Electric Daisy Violin” could convey the spirit of a Celtic jig. “Crystallize” places her expressive playing within a dubstep framework. Inspired by poet Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” “Song of the Caged Bird” matches lively bowing with crisply programmed rhythms. For those wondering how she’d sound more traditionally, “Elements (Orchestral Version)” places Stirling firmly in Classical Crossover or film-soundtrack mode.

Super COOL

I liked classical music before but NOW geez! Lindsey Stirling brings a new fun twist to an instrumental world! Usually the mention of "Classical music" makes today's youth groan with predisposed boredom, but now Stirling refreshes the pallet of sound and renews music appreciation for the classical arts.

Great debut, rhythm needs help

Love Lindsey and her approach. The melodies are lovely, the violin work fun and impressive. My only issue is that the music is rhytymically boring and pretty uniform throughout the album. For a song or two it's fine, but as a full set, it's mostly just beat, beat, beat, beat... throughout. It makes the total experience rather "samey" from song to song. Also, for my taste, the drum / violin mix (volume) favors the drum too much, which is unfortunate since the violin is much, much more interesting.

Still, Lindsey is a delightful artist and I look forwards to her future work!

Yes! Lindsey is releasing more music! I can't wait for this, even if it's 2 more songs! Support this talented artist! :)
