Finally! Sasha & John Digweed comes to iTunes!

if I'm not mistaken, this is the very first DJ mix album released in the Renaissance series and dates back to October 1994, which was then later re-released as a "remastered 10th Anniversary edition" in 2004 as triple CD disc set. So you can imagine this is an epic release on iTunes to have such a rare and golden album finally to be available digitally, no less from the likes of DJ legends Sasha & John Digweed, which also marks this as their very first DJ mix album here on the store as well.

I have been a long time follower of these gentlemen, dating back to their timeless Northern Exposure CD mixes, and the start of Sasha's full fledged career in music production back when he was still collaborating with artists like BT. Their style of finesse and originality in their mixing brought about a vision of what Progressive House was and would become, as we now know it.

This album marks the beginning of their joint career into commercializing their underground DJing life, with a staggering 44 tracks including three continuous DJ mixes (for each CD), and for $9.99, this is just a steal. At least here in the U.S., this CD has been out of print for years and is a real gem of electronic music. For any unsuspecting lurkers out their, Renaissance - The Mix Collection, just as it is the beginning of a prestigious music series, is a great starting point and window into the evolution of both progressive house music and for the careers of both Sasha & John Digweed. Though the sounds of the tracks on this mix are obviously dated with primarily analog synths, much tamer compression, and without the precisely cut audio of today's standard digital electronic music, they still manage to cut through to the listener with their classic synth riffs and great production.

I already own this album from the 2004 re-release, but I immediately purchased this when I saw it, to show my support for Sasha, Digweed and Renaissance. I just now hope and wish that we can see another label, Global Underground, also bring their back catalogue CDs and some of S&D's biggest solo DJ sets in history, as well a whole other list of other great DJs.

Still a fan!

the music selection overall is "Great "the mix itself is "Good,"however it sounds like the old man on the front cover did the mix with a tape deck or a reel, because i keep hearing these funky lil cuts between and thru-out the mixes. With all the technology and talent you would think JD would know better.anyways Not sure Whats up with that. If you can live with it then go for it

Classic

A must-have album for anyone who considers themselves an aficionado of trance/house music. As another reviewer mentioned, this was the first Sasha and Digweed mix album, but also started the DJ mix album format that is now common among many other DJs and record labels today. I first discovered this album years ago, and it's still one that I find myself listening to regularly even now.

Looking at the track selection on iTunes here, this looks like the original 1994 edition of the album. There is also a 10th anniversary remastering of the album that was released in 2004, although the 2004 edition has the two M-People tracks replaced with tracks from different artists (though still quality tracks nonetheless).

If you are a fan of house music but have never heard this mix, I highly recommend checking it out now. The 9.99 price is almost too good to be true for what is more than 3 hours worth of music, and although many of the tracks definitely have that early '90s classic house feel, this album is still considered by many to be the standard bearer among DJ mix albums. I probably sound like I'm giving a sales pitch by writing all this, but I'm not. It's just that good.
