AMAZING

I first heard about these guys in a review David Dye wrote on NPR's World Cafe website. They are the real deal. Highly recommended!!!

Evolution at its Best.

Not to get all Allen Ginsburg and start describing this band as a deathmatch between a lithe kabuki dancer and a hungry bear, but yeah, you get a little bit of bitter and a little bit of sweet with Phonograph and it's done up in a way that sort of reveals itself slowly after a number of passes. The new batch of tunes is a great extension to what is an absolutely amazing first record. Great dudes, great songs.

a damn fine EP

I am not given to superlatives, especially regarding a form (the EP) that is normally a bridge between two full-length albums, but I have found an exception. Hiawatha Talking Machine (HTM) is a surprisingly complete recording by a band that has had some significant early success. This is Phonograph's second 2007 release, and I fully expected it to be a set of tracks that, for good reason, didn't make the cut for their debut CD. To the contrary, these songs have a character and production quality that signify "the next step" in the evolution of this band. These are extraordinary songs extraordinarily produced; this EP will be a prized collector's item.
