The best place to start with McTell

There are earlier compilations of his work around, but to me this is the most accessible. Recorded late in his life, he masters the twelve string like no other, and the recording quality here is great. His command of the slide and vocal on "River Jordan" and "Aint it Grand" is remarkable, and there's more soul in this version of "Motherless children" than Clapton's. My favorite tune: "Little Delia". Anyone who appreciates roots music should listen to this. Incredibly, he would die a year after this was recorded, of throat cancer.
