First Class Overview of a Classic Jazz Artist
If you've never had the treat of listening to Roy Eldridge, this is a great beginning. "Little Jazz" was a trumpet star in the swing era, went through a lot of changes breaking the color barrier with Gene Krupa, and is generally regarded as the 'thread' connecting the earlier New Orleans -style trumpet (actually coronet) of Louis Armstrong to bebop's Dizzy Gillespie, however much of an oversimplification as that may be. Here's Roy in full bloom, playing full bore, mainly culled from his LPs in the '50's for Norman Granz' Verve Records. Awesome!
