Album Review

Seminal punk band Agnostic Front's 1989 release Live at CBGB's was a blistering history lesson on the New York hardcore scene. Seventeen years later, Roger Miret and Vinnie Stigma's visceral reaction to the early-'80s new wave movement revisited the lauded venue for another ferocious lecture, this time with five Digital 24p cameras and 5.1 Surround Sound. Front classics like "Victim in Pain," "Public Assistance," and "Toxic Shock" shake the time-worn, smoke-and-grease-covered band stickers off of the club walls, and the 23-minute documentary, photo gallery, exclusive interview with Stigma, and pristine 52-minute set only bolsters the group's reputation as legend of the genre.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Not sure why bands decide they need to RE-Master the old stuff with new technology. I had this cassette back when it came out and I could not get enough of it and would rate the original at 5 stars... But this "new" mix really sounds bad and scores lower! Bring back the original mixes!

This ain't the one I remember

This is not the original live at CB's show. Why did they put out a new one with the same title? Who knows. This is not a bad recording but doesn't kick near as hard as the OG. I was expecting the classic gig from 1988.I'm a little bummed to have dropped ten bucks on this. I'll have to dig out the cassette player and rock out the real "Live at CBGB."

At the dawn of the '80s, New York City was mired in debt and crime, grappling with one of the most trying periods in its history, yet ironically (or perhaps fittingly), its underground music scene was seething with activity like never before. Still reeling from the violent inception and subsequent implosion of punk rock, hundreds of underprivileged kids living in Manhattan and its outlying boroughs began forming rock groups to rail against the everyday trials, dangers, and prejudices of urban existence....
