iTunes Editors’ Notes

One of the great outdoor venues, UC Berkeley's Greek Theater has hosted hundreds of concerts over the years, as well as commencement ceremonies and speeches by everyone from William Hearst to the Dalai Lama. The Doobies were at the height of their powers in 1982, and this 19-track collection finds them pulling out all the stops for a very appreciative audience. Live recordings (especially in the pre-digital age) are notoriously hit-or-miss, but the sound quality here is pristine, with a crystal-clear mix on the horn-infused instrumentation and Michael McDonald's extra-smooth vocals in full effect. All of their classic hits are included, such as "Listen to the Music," "Takin’ It to the Streets," "Long Train Runnin’," "What a Fool Believes," and "Minute by Minute." Whether you're an old-school fan from back in the day or are just now getting hip to their relentlessly funky boogie-rock stylings, do yourself a favor and check this out.

Great live album

I agree that the Doobie Brothers were quite different prior to Michael McDonald joining the ranks. I was able to see the Doobies three years in a row when I was in high school, and their music evolved each of those years. Back then, my tastes would have been pre-Michael, but I've since learned to appreciate quality musicianship whenever I hear it, and this album is quite good. The playing is tight, and a good sampling of their catalog is included here. This album was made to be played LOUD. My only complaint is that some of the crowd noise sounds added to the mix, and doesn't sound real. Since I downloaded this album from iTunes, I don't have access to the booklet, so I don't know if there were any overdubs. All in all, this really is a great live album.

Great album!

I remeber this album when it was first released and was alwys amazed it was not re-released sooner. Firstly to CrashC23, Tom Johnstone DOES sing on this album. He made a guest appearance and sings China Grove and Listen to the music. This is a great selection of the Doobies hits and then some. I love it and will wear it out.

one of the best concert live recording ever

Doobie Brothers fans around the world should not be with out this live concert recording. They were great then and they are great now. Always a live high energy concert.
