"Live in Japan" Lots of Laughs

Rockapella's recording of their live performance in Japan is a fun, casual album that highlights all of Rockapella's strengths as a group. One of the great ensembles of the a capella (the use of voice alone) genre, Rockapella cover well known music with their own twist. Songs like "House of the Rising Sun" and "Love Potion #9" are familiar and yet unique. The best aspect of this album would have to be the group's interaction with their foreign audience. Their Japanese is stilted and their accents atrocious yet they are still able to cross the language barrier and make their audience laugh, clap, and cheer. The music, however, is not to be out done. The short "Ue O Muite Aruku" is a nod to the Japanese people and adds to the fun flavor of the album. "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" has so many layers you'll need to listen to it a few times, and you'll love "Summertime Blues" as much as you liked the original. Another reason to pick up this album as an introduction to the group (if you need one) is because it has their inescapable hit "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"

If you like Accapella then you have to buy these guys

This album showcases how great an accapella group can be. No other group has the broad range and harmony that they have. BUY THIS AND ALL THEIR ALBUMS!

The group was formed during the mid-'80s by Brown University students Sean Altman (tenor) and Elliott Kerman (baritone), who met while members of the school's male a cappella ensemble the High Jinks. They soon formed a spin-off street corner group dubbed the Lunchtime Specials, gradually evolving into Rockapella -- although other members came and...
