One of the Best

God how I miss Rick Danko. Not only was he the cement that held together the Band, but his solo career was just as significant. This offering, though played to a small venue, is a tour-de-force for one of rock's legendary musicians and vocalists. He simply has NEVER sounded better than here on this recording.

Live on Breeze Hill

Rick was a great friend and had the most beautiful voice in The Band. His plaintiff "It makes No Difference" backed by Garth on sax is enough to make me cry when I listen to it these days. It was recorded on a beautiful May evening outdoors and Rick's voice filled the sky with soulful, longing lyrics. He was backed by a great great horn section for this memorable recording. Professor Louie adds his talent to the lineup for a great recording of some of the best music from the Band's deep catalogue of songs. Thank you Rick we miss you.

Great Album!

This is the best of the later Rick Danko albums. His voice is in fine form and his band does justice to everything from the blues to some songs from Danko's days with The Band. Standouts are 'Blaze of Glory,' with a terrific Dixieland close-out, and 'Crazy Mama,' which is an old JJ Cale song. These reveal Danko as a great singer and entertainer. This live album proves that he could sell a song. His voice is strong, his performances are real, and his song selection impeccable.

Rick Danko was — and will forever be known as — one of the three singing members of the Band, as well as their bassist. Their principal lead singer on the first album, he was second of the members to join the group back in its days backing Ronnie Hawkins, and the second of its members to pass away. He was born Richard Clare Danko on December 29, 1942, in Greens Corner, Ontario, Canada, near the town of Simcoe. The latter is in a part of Ontario populated by a large number of families...
