EDITORS’ NOTES

Shooter Jennings’ previous album, 2016’s Countach, was, rather improbably, a tribute to electronic pioneer Giorgio Moroder. For Shooter, the son of outlaw-country legend Waylon Jennings has returned to his roots, but not without the winking sense of humor that’s always been present in his work. For one, the record has a visual accompaniment in the form of a Hee Haw-style variety show, complete with cornpone one-liners and cameos from Elle King and Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell. The music itself is throwback country at its finest, with barroom singalongs (“Do You Love Texas?”) and Hank-inspired ballads (“Rhinestone Eyes”) mingling with cheeky David Allan Coe-style drinking songs (“D.R.U.N.K.”). Oh, and “Fast Horses & Good Hideouts” was inspired by a correspondence with Randy Quaid. What more could you want?

Possibly my favorite song he’s ever recorded!!

I’m glad he’s bringing new outlaw country music to the fold. His last album in my opinion was horrible. The weird synthesizers, it may have been a fun project deal, but I wanna see shooter do outlaw music! Whether he likes it or not those are his roots. Plus this is what the fans want! Love the new song and I preordered the album. Big big fan. (Ps I’m 24)

Instant Classic Album

Shooter is one of the most diverse and productive songwriter and producers in all of music. He returns with an original album that is likely his best and an instant classic. With Atlantic and Elektra backing him, he should finally receive the acclaim and eyes he deserves such as Grammy consideration. Buy the album, take the ride and then tell a friend to buy it too.

Bound ta git down

Wouldn’t expect anything less than perfection from Shooter and his band. And with Dave Cobb producing, it was bound to be an incredible album. Every single track is perfect. I know Shooter doesn’t like to ride his daddy’s coat tails, but Waylon would be proud of this album.
