For fanatic fans only.

As a big fan of Joan Armatrading in the 80s, I got this recording in anticipation of seeing her live this summer. Joan's vocal range has always been limited but she's been able to apply it creatively with imaginative songwriting, intense emotion and excellent production help. On "Into the Blues," however, her singing is some of the worst I've heard by a professional musician. When Joan sings the high notes on this recording she reminds me of my college roommate's squeaky singing while he listened to music with headphones on. Even though she's backed up by a great band and her guitar playing shines, Joan's weak vocals makes this for fanatic fans only.
