iTunes Editors’ Notes

With slightly longer songs (most are over a minute) than previous records, Pig Destroyer's fourth album is closer to death metal than the grindcore (or "deathgrind") they are often associated with. The tempos still reach breakneck speeds, it's just that Phantom Limb finds the band simplifying their approach just enough to inspire the distinction. "Heathen Temple," "Thought Crime Spree" and the titular cut all point out the spot where Slayer, Obituary and Pig Destroyer meet up. Beyond that, the one-two punch of "Fourth Degree Burns" and "Alexandria" features two of guitarist Scott Hull's signature breakdowns, slowing the action to a bludgeoning pace and gathering tension until it's released with the fury of a tornado. Even without playing solos, Hull is one of the most exciting guitarists in metal.

Prize Pig

This album is amazing, first and foremost. Pig Destroyer have done a few new things on this album that I think really raise it above their back catalouge. First, they have added more of a thrash sound with songs like Loathsome and Thought Crime Spree. Second, they have added some cool midsection breaks, like the Mastodonish ones in Heathen Temple and Machete Twins. Finally, and most importantly, the songwriting is much improved. On Terrifyer, there were a few songs that seemed to end maybe a minute or thirty seconds too short. On Phantom Limb, each song is fleshed out with enough changes and variation to keep you interested and yet enough conhesion to keep them "songs" as opposed to random riffs slaped together. This is the album of the year barring G-d himself and Satan collaborating on some super bad*ss album. Now, that would be cool.

Sick Sick Sick

This album is insanity set on fire. By far Pig Destroyers best work. Thought it would be hard to surpass Terrifyer but this one takes a giant dump on Terrifyer and then eats it. Buy this you won't be dissapointed.

PIG DESTROYER RULES!!!

This new addition to the priceless music catalog of pig destroyer is a work of pure genius. It doesnt stray too far from previous works but thats ok because at least they didnt turn lame like most bands do after 4 or 5 records. If you like anything pig destroyer definitely check this one out.
