iTunes Review

Brothers Joseph and Sebastian Keefe perfect their sun-drenched harmonies and expansive instrumentation on this second album, and the result is shimmering, golden, and quietly cinematic. These are songs that break your heart in ways you’ll not only welcome but actively seek out, from “Hero” to “Hey Ma.” And if it makes you think of the West Coast jangle-pop that started with The Byrds and extends through to Beachwood Sparks, The Shins, and Fleet Foxes, well, that’s just fine by them.

Spinner show at ACL SXSW

Great album and great show at ACL Spinner show.

Disappionted, other than "Hero"

I have to say, I heard "Hero" on the radio and thought it was an unreleased Elliott Smith track. I love ES! I went straight to a computer to search for it. I found out it was this band and went Oh, maybe this will be as good as "Hero". The rest of this album left me very disappionted. Their style is not consistant thru the album. Sorry guys. I do like it, but not as much as Elliott. Thanks for "Hero". I love it. Makes me miss Elliott more though.

Wow

Best album I've gotten in a long time. I love this and these guys. I used to love their old band, the Billionaires... And when looking for new stuff from them stumbled upon this. Fantastic!

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Sunny Los Angeles-based indie pop outfit Family of the Year formed in 2009 around the talents of Welsh brothers Joseph and Sebastian Keefe, Florida native James Buckey, and Orange County, California denizen Christina Schroeter. Employing a heady mix of Beach Boys-inspired male/female harmonies and a penchant for cleverly arranged, folk-influenced pop confections in the vein of Mates of State, Phoenix, Essex Green, and Local Natives, the band released its debut EP, Where's the Sun, in September 2009...
