iTunes Review

Duran Duran’s second album elegantly and audaciously tests the boundaries of synth-pop, fleshing out New Wave guitars and disco grooves with shimmering keyboards and some of the '80s' catchiest hooks. "Rio" pits Simon Le Bon's suave voice against a sleek, driving pulse, while "The Chauffeur" sets him adrift among ethereal pads and pan pipes. John Taylor's muscular basslines propel "Last Chance on the Stairway" and "My Own Way"; "Hungry Like the Wolf" plays hard rock riffs off delectable vocal harmonies. The melancholy "Save a Prayer" sounds tailor-made for slow dances in the distant future.

although i have to still build my own perfect “Rio” on an iTunes playlist using different mixes from all the different Rio’s I have…this is for any Duranie & anyone who wants to own this album.

Classic!

This was a classic album, and getting this extended version allows the listener to relive this album as it unfolded from the UK to the USA. It broke Duran Duran into the spot light. And proved them to be a versatile powerhouse in pop/rock.

Nostalgic album for me

Fun to choose the remixes you like best to create your own favorite version of Rio. A real treat for those of us who collected some of these versions on vinyl back in the days of the 12" remix.

Without music videos, it's likely that their pop-funk -- described by the group as the Sex Pistols-meet-Chic -- would never have made them international pop stars. While Duran Duran did have sharper pop sensibilities than their new romantic contemporaries like Spandau Ballet and...
