iTunes Review

Originally formed in Chicago in the mid-‘80s the Dwarves are one of punk rock's longest-lasting groups. Though their line-up has morphed some over the years, their co-founders Blag Dhalia and HeWhoCannotBeNamed have been a constant, as they've assaulted listeners with tales of moral depravity over the course of a dozen albums, plus multiple DVDs, 7-inches, and side projects since 1986. They are perhaps best known for their 1990 album Blood, Guts & P*ssy, released on Sub Pop just before the label blew up on the back of the grunge movement. Firmly rooted in classic punk and hardcore, their songs are loud, fast, and aggressive, but also extremely melodic and catchy, in spite of the over-the-top, anti-society lyricism. Born Again is just what old school Dwarves fans would hope for, with quality songs like "We Only Came To Get High," "Your Girl's Mom," and "The Band That Wouldn't Die."

Short of G.G. Allin, it would be hard to name a punk rock band that went further to establish a bad reputation than the Dwarves. Playing deliberately crude, high-speed punk rock dripping with bad attitude, the Dwarves -- led by vocalist Blag Dahlia and guitarist He Who Cannot Be Named -- matched their music with lyrics that celebrated all sorts of bad behavior, and their album covers almost invariably featured full frontal nudity. Add in the band's live shows, which often lasted less than 20 minutes...
