Childhood memories and grownup wishes infuse Kristin Andreasson’s Gondolier with a whimsical sort of yearning. The Brooklyn-based artist’s first album in six years benefits from the empathetic support of such folk and bluegrass notables as The Punch Brothers’ Chris Eldridge and Paul Kowert, Aiofe O’Donovan, and Jefferson Hamer. Andreasson’s silken, slightly melancholy vocals and diary-like lyrics convey subtle emotional shadings that veer from quiet confessions (“The Fish and the Sea”) to moody soul-cries (“How the Water Walks”) and bemused character sketches (“The Apple Song”).
