iTunes Review

On her sixth album, Missy Elliott continues to push forward as if still out to prove something. The Cookbook finds her acknowledging hip-hop’s past (guests include Grand Puba and Slick Rick) and present (Ciara and M.I.A.) while nearly running to get around the next corner. Like Jay-Z at his best, she blurs the lines between party-ready and thoughtful, sounding up-close and personal even when a track is packed with other stars. Even her old tricks sound thrilling, as when the heavily electro single “Lose Control” breaks into a completely different rhythm midway through. Not only does Missy more than represent for great hip-hop, she’s doing a hell of a lot for the whole of pop music.

Though "Lose Control" and "Teary Eyed" are awsome songs the rest of this album is great too so buy it. I've never liked Missy, but after I bought this album she was one of my favorite artists. When you buy it you have to listen "We Run This" because she does run this world.

Talent, talent, talent!

Missy isn't just one of the usual rappers. She applies clever rhyme schemes and killer beats to her music, and her songs just make me wanna dance! This album especially has some GREAT selections that bring out the true meaning of rap music. My favorites are Joy & Lose Control. Some other good Missy songs are I'm Really Hot, Gossip Folks, Work It, The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly), and Get Ur Freak On. Check it out!

No female rap artist paralleled the success of Missy Elliott, neither during her reign nor before, and none was more deserving. Unlike most of urban music's female superstars, Missy writes her own songs as well as performs them, and her creative wit in on a par with her stylish demeanor. In addition to her talent and showmanship, she established herself as a genuine hitmaker alongside her longtime producer, Timbaland. She initially scored hits for others, namely Aaliyah ("One in a Million," "If Your...
