Customer Reviews

This is actually a pretty good release. I didn't get it back in 1993 only recently. I'm not even sure I was aware that they had released it back then. Anyway, I was very hesitant to check this album out. I've been a huge fan of Blessing In Disguise since it's release in 1989. Human Factor was also a great release. While this album doesn't quite measure up to those to releases, it's still in my top three Metal Church albums. The other two being the other releases with Michael Howe on vocals. He really does some interesting things and can really belt out those high notes.

All that said, this album will throw you plenty of curve balls and it's full of twists and turns stylistically. Everything from good old thrash to folk like pieces with thrash in the middle of them. The subject matter is deep and the songs ambitious. It's a darker sounding album and also has darker subject matter. My first listen through I wasn't digging starting with the second it's really growing me. Having only purchased it a few days ago, I already have about a dozen listens in with it. I recommend this album totally. It was crapped on in reviews when it was released and has left a lot of fans scratching their heads but I think after a few listens you'll see how ahead of it's time it was. it's probably their most progressive release.

Get OTHER Version

This is a decent MC album, underrated... But get the other version, because the bonus song "Low to Overdrive" is not included on this album. It's by far my favorite song off of this album (and up there with my favorite MC songs).

stands the test of time

Sometimes this album gets overlooked, but it has become my favorite album after all these years. I have a stack of Metal Church cd's sitting in my car, and this is the one I grab most often.

Formed in Seattle in 1982, Metal Church consisted of vocalist David Wayne, guitarists Kurdt Vanderhoof and Craig Wells, bassist Duke Erickson, and drummer Kirk Arrington. Their 1985 self-titled debut album, recorded when the thrash/speed metal genre was still evolving, made a huge splash on the scene, as did its similar follow-up, The Dark. However, the band really hit its stride when Wayne left and was replaced by Mike Howe on 1989's Blessing In Disguise; Vanderhoof left after the album due to his...
