Average at best.

All the songs sound the same. Average at best. I see all these praises of Ms McKennit. Yes, she is wonderful. However, listen to her ealier material where she had variety. Various styles of music, tempos, fast and slow. The way she sang the songs. The various instruments used in her music. Then compare it to these 3 songs. I will wait until the full version is available b4 i decide to buy. So far, this is average stuff and below expectations.

A maturing artist

As a singer myself I can tell you that Loreena McKennitt's voice isn't what it used to be--her low register and high register are fine but the middle where they meet is difficult for her, especially the transition between the two. I noticed it on her last album as well. However, the songs in this album are so lovely, particularly the title track, that it has become one of my favorite McKennitt albums. The songwriting seems less inspired by folk music and world music and is now more personal. Everything is warm and peaceful, but always tinged with melancholy and sorrow. Deeply touching.

In a turbulent world we need this.

Loreena McKennitt returns with music that will soothe your soul. At a time in history, we so much chaos and hate - let this envelop you. Much needed.
