iTunes Review

Best known for his presence in Paul Shaffer's CBS Orchestra on the Late Show with David Letterman, Will Lee began his musical life as a drummer before switching to another side of the rhythm section on bass guitar. Lee's ability to play anything put in front of him and to play it well has been his blessing and his curse. It's kept him fully employed but rarely working on his own music. This is his first album in 20 years, and the guests come out to welcome him back, with Shaffer, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Steve Lukather, Pat Metheny, Steve Gadd, Narada Michael Walden, Bob James, Chuck Loeb, and Allen Toussaint all working alongside Lee. But to hear a pop song as easeful as "Miss Understanding" is to know that a first-rate singer and tunesmith lurks under the session man's role. A version of Toussaint's "Get Out of My Life Woman"—with Toussaint, of course—is strong and vibrant. "Papounet's Ride" lets him play incredibly active bass lines among the smoother guitars chords that swirl around the instrumental track.

A true Renaissance man!!!

I have to admit to being biased in Will's favor, he is in fact one of my favorite musicians in the world!
That being said this record stands on its own as being far beyond a vanity project
or a some showboat effort by a well known Muso!
This is real music with heart and soul.
Plenty of feel and crazy cool ideas both rhythmically
and harmonically.
Will singing and playing are at such a high level you have to scratch your head and wonder why it's taken him 20 years to do this!
I dig this record a lot and hope his next one comes around a little sooner !!!

listened through the preview...

I just listened through the preview of the album, and so far I'm blown away by the amount of sounds and ideas flowing through Will's mind, heart, and hands.
Such cool arrangements and enough diverse styles for any true music listener to sink their teeth into.
I pre-ordered it, and simply cannot wait to get it in my head in a few days.

Will Lee got his first drum set as a Christmas present at a very young age. After watching the Beatles performing at Ed Sullivan's TV show, he decided to get seriously involved in music. Soon after his family moved from San Antonio to Miami, Lee joined a band for the first time, playing drums and singing, later, becoming its bass player. Invited by brothers Michael and Randy Brecker, Will Lee joined New York-based Dreams, playing along with talented drummer Billy Cobham. When Dreams disbanded, the...
