Album Review

Keith Jarrett has recorded quite a few albums with his "Standards Trio," which also features bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette, and virtually all of their releases are enjoyable. The music that they create is in some ways an update of the type of interplay that took place between Bill Evans and his sidemen, where all three musicians often act as equals (although Jarrett, like Evans, has most of the solo space). An uptempo "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing" is a surprising highpoint of this disc but also quite memorable are "All of You," "Old Folks" and "How About You?"; none of the eight performances from the concert appearance are throwaways. Jarrett's vocal sounds are more restrained than usual while his piano playing is in peak form.

Customer Reviews

this album is awesome

Keith Jarrett humming is annoying but this is true art music, if you don't "get it" step aside, and be quiet. This music is nothing short of brilliant. There is no need for bad reviews. There are plenty of Kenny G albums out there, go buy one of them. Kenny G's music is very clear and brilliantly recorded and sounds like something you might enjoy.

little girl blue...

The quintessential representation of romance and love - little girl blue: this is the only way piano should always be played. Thank you Keith, Gary and John, you are just and simply fantastic.

This album, as well as some others done by the trio, would have been beautiful and a potential jazz masterpiece. However, their inclusion of the backround buzzing vocal, akin to a very bad juice harp, completely ruins them all!!

Pianist, composer, and bandleader Keith Jarrett is one of the most prolific, innovative, and iconoclastic musicians to emerge from the late 20th century. As a pianist (though that is by no means the only instrument he plays), he literally changed the conversation in jazz by introducing an entirely new aesthetic regarding solo improvisation in concert. Though capable of playing in a wide variety of styles, Jarrett is deeply grounded in the jazz tradition. He has recorded nearly 80 albums as a leader...
