One of Pearl Jam's best covers yet . . .

Ok, let's get the obligitory "I <3 Pearl Jam" or "Ed cantz sing!" reviews out of our minds for just a moment. This song does one of rock's greatest anthems justice and then some. Brendan O'Brien is an amazing producer and does a great job on the keys and incorporating many instruments one would usually not find in a Pearl Jam song. The intro is incredible here. The rest of the song, however, is just even better. We see some of Ed's best "screaming" (as I hate to use this term as it has a very negative connotaion but I mean it in a great way) yet, and definitely the best since the days of Do the Evolution. His voice attacks at your heart, tears it up, sews it back together, and then tears it up again. The verses are such an amazing build up to the chorus that the entire song feeds of each other. Pearl Jam has done many great covers throughout the years, and this one is no exception. This is such a fine tribute to everything The Who was as a band, and it's a breath of fresh air to see their music moving on from generation to generation. It's a great buy for a fan of Pearl Jam, the Who, or rock music in general.

Unbelievable. Though the song might be old, it is remarkably well done. These guys really know how to play; they brought the symphonic rifts of the Who and added thier own Pearl Jam touch, the touch of gold in this case. This song was meant to be Pearl Jam's, now it finally is.

This song was meant for eddie vedder's vocals. I love this version of the song. Amazing.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. After Mother Love Bone's vocalist, Andrew Wood, overdosed on heroin in 1990, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament assembled a new band, bringing in Mike McCready on lead guitar and recording a demo with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron on drums. Thanks to future Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons, the demo found its way to a 25-year-old San Diego surfer named Eddie Vedder, who overdubbed...
