EDITORS’ NOTES

Musiq Soulchild surrounds himself with Philly talent on his debut. Beatboxer Scratch’s surreal vocalese electrifies his "Introlude" and the rhythmically stuttering "Speechless," while James Poyser crafts a churchy Fender Rhodes bounce on "My Girl." For his part, our host is an unpretentious gentleman who shyly asks a girl out on "Just Friends (Sunny)," celebrates his valentine on ballad "Love," and leads his friends and neighbors in a rousing jam session on "143," which makes beeper code feel more personal than words. Aijuswanaseing radiates sensitivity and emotion—it's house a party that’s full of soul.

Musiq to your ears

Musiq's album, Aijuswanaseing (or "I just wanna sing") is a beautiful album. From soft and sweet to hip-hop that has you jumping around, this one's got it all! His songs 143, Love and Aimewitue are enough to make any girl swoon, while L' is Gone and Interlude: Musiq Soulchild will have you dancing to the beat! Musiq's got a really amazing voice and great songs to match. Definitely a must-buy.

my favorite neo-soul artist

aijuswanaseing is super tight, clean, smooth... i love musiq's voice!! if "love" doesn't give you chills at the coda, then you don't have a pulse.

Lyrics, tight music, serious vocals, grammy material!

Yo, this brother really puts it down when it comes to good soul music. I call it "up -to-date soul music from the 70's." This brother does Mr. Stevie Wonder and Donnie Hathaway proud with his vocal styles, and his refreshing lyrics. I really enjoyed every track! Original in his own way!! Hence the name MUSIQ!! ; )
