Customer Reviews

Not too bad for a self-produced project...

Stephen Desmond is a singer-songwiter who currently resides in Long Beach, California, USA. He has been a professional musician since the age of 15; his first gig was at the US Naval Reserve near San Diego in 1971. Over the years his music has gone though many evolutions and visited many musical avenues, including tours through rock, pop, folk, country, contemporary Christian, Tex-Mex and blues. His latest CD is a semi-follow up to his 1997 folk release "Ledesma Lane", which was an overlooked little gem. This collection visits the blues ("Gone", "Lucinda", "Yesyesyes", "Hooked!"), country ("Hotels and Honky Tonks") and pays tribute to The Beach Boys ("Tommy Boy"), Lou Reed ("Reptile Man") and The Beatles...specifically Lennon and Harrison ("Dr. Winston O' Boogie..."). In the tradition of other one-man-banders such as McCartney and Fogerty, he plays all the instruments himself, except for sax (Dominic Iarussi) and drums by Mick Fleetwood. Yes, it's THAT Mick Fleetwood, via loops and samples provided by the premier drummer. Stephen Desmond is a contemplative soul who wears his heart on his sleeve. This is a nice sampler of what the man is capable of. Definitely worth a listen or two...
