Album Review

Mindi Abair's GRP debut, It Just Happens That Way, showcases the multi-talented artist's pop-influenced vision of jazz. The saxophonist/vocalist/percussionist and composer offers listeners 12 exceptional tunes on which she plays alto and soprano saxophones, keyboards, vox, and wind chimes. Best known for her featured solos on tour with the Backstreet Boys, Mindi Abair is both invigorating and exciting. She finds a new challenge with Eagle-Eye Cherry's smash hit "Save Tonight," on which she showcases her inviting vocals, which are reminiscent of Norah Jones and Sheryl Crow. Abair co-wrote all but one of the CD's tracks, including "Save the Last Dance," "Flirt,"and "Lucy's." Overall, the debut is a sure indication that Mindi Abair has much more to offer than just a pretty face.

Rich and soulful

Each song is rich and full of soul. I first heard Mindi Abair on an Emiril cooking show and fell in love with her sound, how it flows from note to note with such ease and fluidity. I quickly ran to my iTunes and downloaded everything I could find. This is nectar for your ears if you love sax sounds. The only complaint I have is the sound can get repetitive with each song sounding a bit like the previous, so my advice is to preview them all and download a few, not the entire album. Same goes for her other work - not too different. Overall she's a talented saxophonist cut from the cloth of Kenny G but with more soul and rythm.

Flirting with your ears

I saw Mindi in concert and met her in person and her music is as sweet and energetic as she is. It's great to see so much passion in music spark from the person itself, and it's apparent how much she loves what she does in every note she plays. It's completely relatable...everyone sees their own experience in each song, and that's waht makes it wonderful.

Still great after three and a half years...

The songs on this album do not age for me. Flirt still totally rocks. Save The Last Dance is still a blast of great sound. All the other songs on this album continue to grow on me and I like them more and more. Maybe that's because they're better than the songs on her new album Life Less Ordinary. This album is a classic, one of the best albums in existance in my opinion.
