Reseña de álbum

In 1989, Steps Ahead consisted of Mike Mainieri on MIDI vibraharp, synclavier and acoustic piano, the young saxophonist Bendik doubling on keyboards, guitarist Steve Kahn, Tony Levin on electric bass and Chapman stick, and drummer Steve Smith. The powerful band did not have a great deal of subtlety by this era, but it helped to keep the much-maligned genre of fusion alive, mixing the sound of rock with jazz improvising. The 11 selections on this obscure effort were all written or co-composed by Mainieri and Bendik and make up in intensity for their lack of dynamics. Rock listeners will most enjoy this decent, if not too substantial release.

Great Album

One of the best, if not THE BEST JAZZ ALBUM I've ever heard. Kicks butt all around. Best song on the ALbum is Charanga, with Stick Jam and Senegal Calling to follow. All the others are very, very good too other than Red Neon, Go or Give, which is just so-so. I wish there were more Albums in existence like this.

Best Jazz album start to finish, ever!

I don't have words to adequatley describe the many accomplishments of this project... I can't even write as I just rediscovered it after thinking I lost it because of an iTunes upgrade.

Allof the suddon, life is good again and I am sure you will fall in love with this as I did if you have an appreciation for phrasing, rhythm and tallented musicians leaving it on the floor. I am sure you won't be the same after listending to this release.
