Berg: Lyrics Suite Dawn Upshaw & the Kronos

Excellent recording! This is full of energy and finesse! a very good selection for anyone interested in this complex but fascinating work. Ms Upshaw's collarboration in the final mvt. came as a surprise, I had not previously encountered this form of the work but found her enterpretation convincing and beguiling.

Kronos Quartet: The Dead White Male Album part 2

It's a relief to hear the Kronos record from the quartet cannon once in a while rather then reverting to the schlock that they've been pumping out recently. This shows why the quartet has garnered so much praise over the years. It's an ernest and fresh reading of the revised Suite with Upshaw's angelic voice chiming in at the concluding movement. One shouldn't get this as just a novelty this is just great stuff by itself.
