Imagination-stirring!

I first heard this on the WRAS show "Atmospherics" in the early 90s. I was familiar with New Age and Space Music, but had never heard this level of arresting darkness before. I love the programmed, repetitive, nightmarish dissonance of this album, as well as the beautiful sonic landscapes that abound. The thing I love about it is the sounds seem very "factory" and unaffected. The transportive nature comes from the compositions themselves, rather than from studio trickery and effects. Anyone can add reverb to something and make it sound "atmospheric", but Frohmader can take a dry clarinet sample and give it a forboding quality that will surprize and shake the listener out of complacency. As this was my first Frohmader album, it will always be my favorite. Very imagination-stirring. It may not be to everyone's taste, but bravo to Cuneiform and iTunes for carrying it.
