iTunes Review

Many fans of Fleetwood Mac’s commercially successful era, when it was fronted by Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, are well aware that the band began as a British blues-rock group touting six-string luminary Peter Green. But not as many folks know there was an amazing post-Green (and pre-Bob Welch) period in between, where Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Danny Kirwan, and Jeremy Spencer still pumped out winsome reinterpretations of seminal blues songs. Recorded live in 1971, Preaching the Blues opens with a rocking rendition of Elmore James’ “Madison Blues,” where Kirwan’s raspy voice gives the cover some true grit. The band follows this with “Purple Dancer,” an original acid-rock number written by Kirwan and John McVie that was released as a b-side to “Dragonfly." The Kirwan-penned “Open the Door” downshifts to a twangy ballad that flirts with some of the country rock that was making waves on the West Coast at the time. Kirwan indulged his heavy Elvis hero worship with an especially raw take on “Jailhouse Rock.”

When Rock Was GREAT!

Back before they polished rock up & made it POP - we had good ol' down to Earth, Raw, HeartFelt Music. Ask yourself, what ever happened to the Good Ol' Days of ROCK'N'Roll? Take us back, back to the early 70's, when the world was being pulled apart by the seams & Rock stars were being born.... When music was art & everything was like a re-born new experience. Experimentnting with a new or old sound was exciting. Fleetwood Mac was just another band who were moving the blues into a rock jam & having a great time. Before Stevie & Lindsey, before Peter & Bob... It was Mick Fleetwood, Jon McVie & wife, Christine Perfect from Chicekn Shack & Jeremy Spencer & Danny Kirwan... say who(?) you might be asking.... Check it out... If you love music for music, I think you'll find this 1971 (recently remasterd) offerring, quite refreshing.

While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few groups experienced such radical stylistic changes as Fleetwood Mac. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Throughout all of their incarnations, the only consistent members of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie — the rhythm section that provided the band with its...
