Editors’ Notes

Black Stone Cherry should be a thousand times more of a household name than they currently are. Their greatest chart success has been with Florida Georgia Line’s cover of “Stay” that lit up the country music charts, and thanks to that “Hollywood in Kentucky” takes a stab in that country-tied direction with references to pickup trucks, good ol’ boys and mom. But largely Magic Mountain, the band’s fourth album, sticks to the melodic and hard rocking sound that’s made each of their previous albums such underrated surprises. The guitar work remains first-rate and the snatches of solos in tunes like “Peace Pipe,” “Bad Luck & Hard Love” and the title track are further evidence that these young men know the value of being in a well-balanced group. Singer-guitarist Chris Robertson is one of the best singers in the hard rock business and he turns every song into a potential concert staple and radio favorite. Producer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age) gives them a sharp edge with finishing touches that balance their live blues-boogie rawness with their post-grunge hit potential.

Customer Reviews

wow

I'm at a total loss of words...what happened to the band who put out 2 masterpieces in the self titled and Folklore and Superstition?? These guys used to be my favorite band but I don't want to even claim them anymore. They had such a distinct sound and now are just another band that sound like every other band on the radio these days. Very disappointing guys. You guys are capable of so much better and you know it.

Not impressed

Their last album was one of the best but I'm not sold on this album. Where's their distinct sound? Rain wizard, Hell and High Water?

Not what I was expecting

At least the 9 dollars I spent on this went towards not having to purchase a thesaurus and learning every synonym or metaphor for "drug use". Between the devil and the deep blue sea was such an amazing album, but to be honest, Magic Mountain just isnt classic BSC.

Fiery Southern rockers Black Stone Cherry originally hailed from a small rural town in south central Kentucky. Lead vocalist and guitarist Chris Robertson met drummer John...
