Awesome. Still stands the test of time.
Okay, my title is a bit melodramatic, but hey, it was 1980 when Xanadu came out and it was a great album then and it still is a great album. The movie on the other hand, well... Let's just say "it was 1980" and leave it at that. At the time I have to admit I was 10 years old and still thought that Jimmy Carter was married to Linda Carter so it was a silly time to say the least. But listening to Xanadu after all these years brings back happy memories and a crush I had for ONJ (like probably most boys my age). The music was pretty soulful in the eyes of a ten year old boy. And I have to admit that my vision of the work may still be colored by such memories. However if one were to listen to the songs now it probably would still touch you because of ONJ's beautiful voice and the lovely lyrics. Again, this is an endorsement for the album not the movie. Never the less if you wanted to still see the movie then seeing ONJ in the tiger stripped suit is not a bad thing. :)
A gift from an 80's goddess
Olivia Newton-John and ELO A match made in pop music heaven. This is still A great soundtrack.Alot of gems, A couple of throw aways but all in all A really fun CD.Still danceable, great for road trips and A must for shaking the blues.Goddess thy is Olivia!
Brings It All Back
When I was a kid, I remember riding my bike to the local record store excited to get this album. I completely was entranced by ELO and Olivia Newton John and had every lyric memorized before I went to go see the film. The best part of this was being able to open up the album and check out all the photos on the inside. Yes it wasn't the best movie in the world. But it brought back a lot of memories. One of my favorite tracks is "Whenever You're Away From Me" because of its genius in melding two different styles of music into one--and when they combine the two styles is masterpiece in itself...
