iTunes Review

At their height in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, The Cars were among the world's finest pop-rock bands, releasing solid albums and catchy hits that rarely escaped the notice of radio stations (and later MTV). The songs' magic was largely courtesy of a flawless band that included drummer David Robinson, lead guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes (who adds ukulele here), and duo vocalists: bassist Ben Orr and guitarist Ric Ocasek. Stripping the songs down to their acoustic studs is a challenging thought that even gave The Cars pause (where’s their Unplugged album?). But here, honest fan Kris Delmhorst sounds like she’s having a blast working through some of the era's finest pop songs. “Magic” is now a ballad. “Just What I Needed” is indestructible and a clear joy. “My Best Friend’s Girl” doesn’t even need a gender shift to keep it cruising. “Shake It Up” keeps its pulsing tempo. “Why Can’t I Have You” balances between pounding drums and subtler strings and harmonies. Without displaying the personal angst of her usual work, Delmhorst here finds the happiness that comes with singing songs you love.

Very Impressed.

Having been a lifelong Cars fan, I stumbled across this album and thought I'd give it a try. I was very impressed with Kris, and her take on these great songs.
I say if you're a fan of either artist, give this a try. You just might be pleasantly surprised.

too much rock and roll

I have loved most of the music by Kris Delmhorst but this album is way off base. Too much backround...the music drowns her voice. All the songs have a beat but few seem to have much poetic substance. I hope she goes back to simple acoustic music with thoughtful lyrics soon.

Kris does Cars :)

Great Cars covers...especially "Why Can't I Have You!" If you like the Cars and Kris...great buy!

By this time she had years of experience at performing and was ready to take a step up in the world of music, so she set to work on a demo tape titled Swim for It. In 1998, Delmhorst...
