10 Songs, 43 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

In honor of their late mother, brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier of French metallurgists Gojira respond to tragedy with some of the most emotional songs of their career. Epic suites yield to sharpened body blows. For every pummeling track like “Silvera” and “The Cell” there are moving salutes like “The Shooting Star” and “Yellow Stone,” where sadness and depression transform into submission and ultimately salvation.

And Instant Classic That Even Metal-haters Love

Wow, wow, wow. This one goes to 11. This ablum is so good in so many ways it's a little difficult for me to quantify. The first time I heard it I was overwhelmed by both the raw hard hitting sound and at the same time how each song seems to "flow" . Upon repeat listenings I found a vast majority of its song had a deeply and rich rhythmic complexity that still marvels me. This is one of the very few albums that I can say "a casual listener will enjoy" that at the same time is "music for musicians".

Several of my metal-hater friends even came to like this album after giving it a listen. Seeing this ablum in music libraries of my friends who normally listen to WSP/Phish or Eminiem/Doomtree is evidence of exactly how amazing this album is.
