Beautiful Bach

Sorry, but I have no patience for those who feel the "vegetarian" view of Bach is the only way. The music is beautifully and sensitively rendered. The accompaniments are extremely tasteful and the recording is superb. The vibrato is nicely controlled--held in abeyance when not needed, but brought to bear for great effect. Ms. von Otter has always been an artist of great intelligence and musical understanding, and this is no exception. If it perhaps lacks the last degree of emotional intensity--I'm a great Lorraine Hunt Lieberson fan--then I credit that to a different, yet still valid point of view about the music.

She has a gorgeous voice

but it doesn't work for this periord. It sounds too forced and the vibrado is not in character with the music. She's done stellar work in the past but I have to say this was a pretty sad attempt at singing barouqe music.

The voices, the accompaniment, the music, all is superb!
