Borrowing as many themes from comic books and emo-core records as they do from house, funk and other more traditional Hip-hop influences, Four Farmer Circus is a fearless composite of tones and styles. Centering on a darkly symbolic B-movie narrative of a trip to a deranged traveling “circus” in which the four members of MG transform into corrupt and diabolical supernatural alter-egos, 4FC is reminiscent of “golden age” concept albums such as De La Soul’s “De La Soul is Dead” or the Goats’ “Tricks of the Shade.”
