Album Review

Regina Belle has quietly built a loyal urban following by doing something you rarely see minor players do anymore — gigging. And not just the package tours with artists of similar status, she does those too, but also makes herself available for fraternal gatherings, company parties, clubs, halls, and elaborate weddings and family reunions, unlike some artists who only go out on pampered company sponsored tours that coincide with a current release. If Regina's last recording was yesterday, she'd still perform live, 'cause she's an entertainer first and a recording artist second. Super Hits features ten of her highest achievers, from "Baby Come to Me" to "Show Me the Way." They're not super hits (which implies Top five pop smashes) as the CD states, but they are pearls: fine, classy, well-constructed, smooth urban delicacies with upscale arrangements and top-shelf singing.

Customer Reviews

A good, basic collection with great sound quality

This collection gives a brief overview of hits from Regina's respectable tenure with Columbia Records. Although nothing is present from her final album for that label (Reachin' Back), the ten tracks on this collection are each excellent and showcase Regina's incredible range as a singer of various styles. Aside from featuring an extended version of "So Many Tears" (which also appears on Baby Come to Me: The Best of Regina Belle), the remainder of the tracks are the original LP versions. It is worthwhile to note the excellent sound quality on this Super Hits compilation. This set, along with the recent compilation Love Songs, are great for Regina fans who have her studio albums but wish to enjoy key tracks in remastered or fuller sound. They are also good for casual fans or new listeners.

Smooth, soulful and strong set

When I first purchased this CD I was blown away by the singing ability Regina possesses. I was familiar with "Baby Come To Me" & "Make It Like It Was". I listened to this CD over and over. Except for 1 song, I was greatly impressed with, and pleased by the quality of the other songs. It remains one of my favorite CD's. She is an amazing songstress who is extremely overlooked and underrated. For anyone who enjoys true talent and a strong vocalist, this CD is utterly enjoyable.

Sophisticated

Regina Belle's arrangements and voice are very sophisticated. I just recently was introduced to her music, and am fortunate to have had this opportunity.
