I Wish This Had Been Released Years Ago

Having been a Carpenters fan for years, I was amazed and excited when Richard and A&M decided to finally release Karen's solo effort. It was worth the wait, but I wish they hadn't waited! Though not all of the songs are up to a Carpenters classic (I can name a number of Carpenters album tracks that aren't) this is a solid effort by a major artist. Karen uses her whole voice and range and creates some great songs. If I Had You - incredible voice and arrangement, Making Love in the Afternoon - fun, bouncy summer song, Make Believe It's Your First Time - simple and sweet. I disagree with the folks at the record company who heard it so many years ago - they couldn't hear the "spark". Maybe they just weren't listening closely. This is a mature and vibrant Karen. A great voice that is deeply missed.

I remember when I heard the news. I stopped dead in my tracks, we had just lost one of the finest voices and musical talents one could ever hear in a lifetime. Her forte was her pitch. She was always dead on. Her brother once commented that she had perfect pitch which was always evident in her recordings, but also true on stage. Her deep sonorous voice has such a calming quality. Totally therapeutic. It's nice to hear her voice again. I remember trying to hold back the tears. I was in the work room and did not want anyone to see a grown man cry, so I quickly went outside and cried my eyes out. I grew up on a steady stream of Carpenter hits. They were like family. I'm glad to see that Richard is still keeping the torch lit. Though it's been a while, I congratulate him for being able to contact her heavenly agent. The angelic choir can let her off for a few more "earthly" tunes. I for one, have had a hard time letting her go, and I can see I'm not the only one.

Love The Album.

I really think this is a great album. Most of the songs are very good. Most of the songs are up beat. Standout tracks for me are "If We Try" a song I believe could have been a hit on the radio back in 1980, I've been playing this song over and over. Other greats are "If I had You", Hard core disco sounds of "Lovelines" and "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind". The gutteral folky "All Because of You" is something different from most of the Carpenders music. The only song I wasn't to keen on was "Still Crazy After All These Years". Other than that I really enjoyed the music and have been playing this rare treasure I found recently for weeks on end.

Born: March 2, 1950 in New Haven, CT

Years Active: '70s, '80s

Karen Carpenter was the lead singer for the soft-rock duo the Carpenters, who scored a string of Top 10 hits in the early '70s, including "(They Long to Be) Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days and Mondays," and "Yesterday Once More." Carpenter recorded one solo album in the late '70s, yet it was unreleased at the time. Following the recording of the record, she returned to the Carpenters, and they had one final Top 40 hit -- "Touch Me When We're Dancing" -- in 1981 before she tragically...
