iTunes Editors’ Notes

While Hall & Oates became radio and TV superstars with a number of monstrous hit singles in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s — “You Make My Dreams,” “Private Eyes,” “Maneater” and “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” — the duo had a long and varied career before their superstar moments as guys raised on Philly Soul. From the onset, Daryl Hall was a top-notch blue-eyed soulman and his partner John Oates knew his way around a fretboard. The songs weren’t always as radio-ready but the duo built a strong cult following on tunes like “She’s Gone” and “Abandoned Luncheonette” (here in a previously unreleased live version). This boxed set includes the hits (“Sara Smile,” “Rich Girl,” “Kiss On My List”), early rarities (Hall as a member of the Temptones, Oates as part of the Masters), live cuts from a 1975 show in London, the occasional outtake and demo and well selected album cuts. Even into the ‘00s, the duo could crank up the lite-soul, as a 2003 live version of Billy Paul’s “Me and Mrs. Jones” proves beyond a doubt.

Customer Reviews

Impressive...

This box set includes all the major hits the duo have had so far in their career. Very comprehensive and songs are in order of album release. It substitutes some live versions here and there in place of album versions. It also has some rarities, and demos for die hard fans. I will say I am somewhat dissapointed that this set did leave out one album release from the 70's that had 2 hits on it. "Beauty on a Backstreet" album is missing with songs "Bigger Than Both of Us" and "Why Do Lovers (Break each others hearts)". Other than these 2 glaring omissions, this career spanning hits set is complete. Fine box set none the less. I would recommend this to new fans, as it has every hit you know and then some. Die hard fans should get this for the unreleased songs including live versions and demos, remixes and out-takes.

Love you like a Brother

From the rare collection No Goodbyes... first time on CD, but is it worth the big price tag... album only :-(

Live songs on disc 1 worth price of admission

The live trax on the end of disc 1 are amazing. The band is phenominal and the sound is a revelation. You can feel the energy in the theatre. I'm so glad this era of hall and Oates is so well documented on this box.

My request is for a full release of the young vic show!
