Album Review

Many Worlds Are Born Tonight is an impressive assemblage that echoes the past glories of David Sylvian, Alison Moyet, and Kate Bush. Given the content, it's likely to fall on very in-the-know ears, for current radio trends are unlikely to embrace this diva's eclectic brand of pop music. Where this album fails is not in talent, but in her sometimes, almost plodding arrangements of otherwise strong material.

Customer Reviews

Brilliant, simply brilliant

This is a gorgeous, fascinating, layered album that rewards multiple listenings and delvings into the lyrics, all of which are meaningful and tell stories, such as "100 Years" which is about a sentient computer abandoned on a deserted space station. Happy's voice alone will have shivers running up your spine, it's so amazing. This album is lush, beautiful, electronic, personal, interesting, deep and so far away from your average music. Fans of Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Jane Siberry, Laurie Anderson, David Bowie and the like should check this out. That review from AllMusic is wrong in that this is not Happy's debut, it's her 10th album! It's also the last to be released, 8 years ago. She's also not on that label anymore. They dropped her because they didn't know what to do with her. Ah well, the music will and does live on.

Electronic w/ heart

This is one of the best electronic albums I have ever heard. Layerd vocals, sampling used to its best effect, and layered insturmentation. So many sounds to immerse yourself in...You can't lose with this one. Definitely one of my top ten ever.

Happy Rhodes, goddess

One of the most astounding voices ever heard by human ears belongs to Ms. Rhodes. As if her multi-octave range isn't enough, her musical skills place her solidly in the pantheon of greatest female songwriters/musicians. Unfortunately , her mind-boggling talents have gone criminally unnoticed by most of the world; here's hoping that some exposure on itunes will help give this phenomenally talented woman her due.

During 1986, Bartlett released three cassettes of Rhodes' music (Happy Rhodes, Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Rearmament), and followed them a year later with Ecto. The duo, as Bartlett/Rhodes, played many live shows during 1987, but no recorded...
