A bold step for Korean rap.

This album is as bold as the ideas driving it. If you’ve never listened to Epik High, Map the Soul is an incredible place to start. It’s fan service, but for new listeners it’s a prism. The linear span of Epik High’s musical history filters into this album and diffuses into s spectrum of unique styles. Nearly every stylistic characteristic of Epik High’s last five albums, repackages and mini albums included, is represented in some fashion in Map the Soul. It’s a gateway drug, basically, prompting the listener to take a step back in time and explore what Epik High has done in the past; it’s incredibly difficult to pull off. Yet, Epik High... they’ve managed to do it. Whether you’ve been following them since their inception, or you are a new listener altogether striving for something authentic and heartfelt in the largely corporate Korean music industry, this album doesn’t disappoint in the slightest.

No Such Thing As Disappointment With Epik High

In the past few years, the commercialized music industry has managed to dumb down some of the greatest names in the world. Record labels are now manufacturing trash and recycled concepts. If we as a people would begin to deman better quality music with actual messages more Epik High's would emerge. Epik High is definitely a leader through the fog. They have no problem incorporating concepts of love in their raps which would be looked down on by "gangstas" and 20 and 30 year olds who "Crank Dat" and "Get Silly". This album has top grade production and artists on every track. Its safe to say that Epik High contributes a great deal in keeping Hip Hop alive. Note: If you can't buy the whole album, my most recommended tracks are in this order: For the Non Korean EH fan Map the Soul (Worldwide) Scenario Free Music Believe Top Gun Map the Soul (Korean) London Cipher 8 by 8 Customer Service For the Korean EH Fan Map the Soul (Korean) Scenario Believe Top Gun Map the Soul (Worldwide) Free Music London Cipher 8 by 8 Customer Service For the Hip Hop head Free Music Cipher 8 by 8 Top Gun Scenario Believe Map the Soul (Worldwide) Map the Soul (Korean) London Customer Service If you don't fall in any of the categories then just preview each songs and pick the ones you like best :) But if you can I recommend the whole album

Formed: 2003 in Korea

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '00s

A two MCs and one DJ South Korean hip-hop group, Epik High went largely unnoticed up the release of their debut album, Mapping the Human Soul, in 2003. But hit singles from their next two full-lengths would prove to be just what the group needed, and 2004's High Society and 2005's Swan Songs (featuring the track "Fly," which was used on the video game FIFA07) were big enough hits to make the members of Epik High household names in Korea.
