Customer Reviews

you ought to know this band, if you don't ...

here's your chance. if you don't already have marquee moon you don't know some of the very best of '70s nyc rock. avoiding accolades on television for a review of this collection, it is the best release i've come across of television yet. i'm pleased with the remastering, generally crisp and clean with some great alternates and outtakes. if you don't have any television, get this. if you already have marquee moon and adventure, you could bypass this unless you're a die-hard television fan or unless you must have the new remaster (it is worth it). the waldorf recording is cleaned up very nicely, but as with all the live recordings i've come across of television, is enjoyable and rewarding, but ultimately doesn't do television the justice they deserve for their live performances. the booklet is graphically disappointing (hell, there's one graphic and it's crappy quality) and of negligible information, but may be interesting to those with little or no knowlegde of the band.

A Good Deal

This costs about twenty five dollars less than what you would pay for the actual CDs (and that's if you can even find a reasonably priced copy of Waldorf - you'd probably would have to buy that off itunes anyway). Either way, the sound quality is great. I appreciate that someone went to the trouble to include the actual liner notes that come with the CD's. The one problem is that the only graphic included is the cover for Marquee Moon. Seems like they could have included the other album covers. I assume they couldn't get the other photos from the liner notes because of copyrights, but it is a little disappointing. Just appreciate the music on its own merits, I guess. By the way, this music is incredible.

There is a God/he is GOOD.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you. One of the best underground bands of all time has reared its pretty face to be smootched by the youth of today. I want to cry. This band is the quintessential post VU/ derivative bands eva!! Enjoy Marquee moon, wonder what happened with adventure , and get immersed by The LIve Album. This proves that someone up there must like me- that someone being a peon of the Apple Corp. (Best Tracks Marquee Moon (both), See No Evil: Other bands you probably missed: Josef K (who franz wants to be), Orange Juice (The Glasgow School), and the Velvet Underground (if you missed them, well, frankly I'd rather not like to talk to you).

Biography

Formed: 1973 in New York, NY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '90s, '00s

Television were one of the most creative bands to emerge from New York's punk scene of the mid-'70s, creating an influential new guitar vocabulary. While guitarists Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd liked to jam, they didn't follow the accepted rock structures for improvisation — they removed the blues while retaining the raw energy of garage rock, adding complex, lyrical solo lines that recalled both jazz and rock. With its angular rhythms and fluid leads, Television's...
