This is one of the top ten albums of the 1990s.

Not that listenable

This was one truly overrated album. A couple of good songs in I Need Love and Strawberry Road, but the rest rather unpleasant. Where are the pop hooks? The catchy melodies? Go get Indescribably Wow to get a favor of Sam at her best. Skip this one.

Beatle-esque Classic

It’s easy to toss around the term Beatle-esque, but this album seems to revel in such musical world. Produced by the now iconic T-Bone Burnett, it is steeped in a joyous diverse sonic world. From strings, to lush layered chords, complete with undeniable hooks, topped off with sharp, stinging wordplay. It truly is an album that deserved more attention when it was released. For anyone with an interest in intelligent, sophisticated pop, this really hits the mark. Start with I Need Love (it soars) then head to Same Changes, Strawberry Road (wonderful layered harmonies. Lush stings), Baby I Can’t Please You, then Same Rain. This is a lost classic!
